Low light wedding photos

I want to show you guys a few different uses of flahses for a recent wedding

I wanted to take a few examples from a recent wedding that I shot in 2021 to show you guys a few different ways that I use flashes in lowlight to help me take some extra fun photos.
This couple reached out to me earlier in the year so our first meeting was on a rainy day in a cafe in the little town of camas. Their engagement shoot was on top of a mountain 3 hours from there. And the wedding was another hour away from the mountain. So being 3-4 hours of driving away from home I definitely needed to make sure that I was ready for any lighting scenario.

It was already getting dark at this point so this was the first photo of the day where I brought out the light stand. perfect timeing for the cake cut.

I normally have two lights that I use during a wedding but you have to take the environment into consideration when this is on the table. One problem that I ran into recently was the issue of my seven-foot umbrella being blown over by the wind. My gear is pretty tough but that is not something that you want heading to the ground with kids and even adults running around.

You can get this effect if you set the shutter lower and move the camera with the flash going off. Its called dragging the shutter and it gives a cool effect of the subject being stationary and the environment illuminated by ambient light a little bit of motion

And not a set of photos is complete without the classic light behind the couple shot. This is a technique that I used very early in my photo career and I am happy to say that it was been improved since then to bring in a little bit more of the environment.

I always do my best to look for a new headliner image.
