Hey guys! We’re happy to be releasing our new preset, Love for the Fourth Preset! This week we wanted to do a throwback to a proposal and engagement shoot I did for a couple from the Fourth of July. Around the time of the Fourth of July, I was contacted by a woman hoping to connect me with her brother, who was wanting to propose to his girlfriend of several years on the night of the Fourth. After I connected with him and heard what and how he was wanting to propose, we started setting up a plan. He had rented an Airbnb in downtown Portland to use as the proposal location and was planning on asking her on the roof as fireworks were going off around them.  When the time came and she made her way onto the roof, she knew exactly what was about to happen. They were all dressed up, fireworks were going off all over, and they’d been talking about getting married for a while, so when he had joined her and was about to pop the question, there was definitely a moment of, “Oh my gosh this is actually happening right now!” She of course immediately said yes.

Afterward, we all went inside the Airbnb to do the engagement photos as well. With the particular setup, it made for e a perfect opportunity to utilize flash photography while indoors, since we didn’t necessarily want it to have a moody or dramatic tone about the shoot. Using flash inside plays less towards an emotional aspect and more towards a mechanical standpoint. I wanted to make sure we had enough ambient light so as to make the room feel more open instead of shooting in a small dark room, and the evenness of the lighting definitely made the room appear much bigger.

Overall this was a fun and fantastic shoot with a sweet couple. I wanted to share and celebrate this experience in a way that could help with any of your own photoshoots that may also leave you with good memories and experiences.
